Broad coalition united by responsible goal
The European Sustainable Tropical Timber Coalition (STTC) is an alliance of industry, business, government and NGOs dedicated to increasing European demand for sustainably sourced tropical timber.
The STTC’s aim is to develop the market in order to incentivise the growth and spread of responsible forest management in tropical countries.
STTC’s initial 2020 target is to increase European sustainably sourced tropical timber sales to 50% above 2013 levels. A key part of the strategy was the 2015 – 2016 European Timber Trade Federation (ETTF) administered programme for funding projects that contribute to this goal, including sustainable procurement action plans in the EU trade and local government.
The growth of the market share of sustainably sourced tropical timber supports responsible forest management and brings environmental and social benefits. It will also ensure that European consumers have continued, ready access to this diverse, high performance and beautiful natural manufacturing and construction material into the future.
The STTC brings together a broad grouping of organisations and interests, united behind a single, powerful message and backed by an effective market strategy – supporting environmentally sound timber from responsibly managed tropical forests.
